Top of the Rock is a lookout located at the Rockefeller Center, and it's my favorite observatory in New York height.

With hardly any lines, mainly due to a good organization, it offers you the best aerial views of New York and Manhattan, especially of the Central Park and Midtown area. The photo that is made of him from the Empire State has already become an icon of New York and an essential memory of your visit to the Big Apple.

The experience in the Top of the Rock

After waiting for our turn in the lift to the observatory watching a documentary about the history of Rockefeller Center, we take the elevator that takes us to the upper floors of the Rockefeller Plaza, where we undoubtedly have an excellent view of Central Park and Harlem on one side, and the most iconic buildings in Midtown on the other, such as the Bank of America at Bryant Park or the Chrysler Building, with the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty in the background. The view over the Empire State Building has special charm, although on the other hand this building prevents that you have a better visibility on Downtown and the financial district.

Recommendations

To climb the Top of the Rock I recommend you to take the tickets or exchange the coupon of the tourist card the same day in advance at the ticket offices, there is an express queue for holders of tourist cards, or in the kiosks that you find in the Rockefeller Center, to ensure the best time and conditions to go up. It is especially recommended to go loaded with a good camera, with a couple of batteries just in case, and go up late in the afternoon to enjoy both the day and night views of the city, although from this year, as in the One World Observatory, you have to pay an extra to go up at sunset time of $ 5.
