The Frick collection is one of the best private art collections you can find in New York with a careful selection of works by European artists mainly.

Located in a mansion, where the family of Henry Clay Frick, patron and art collector lived, at the corner of 70th Street and Fifth Avenue, is located a few steps away from the Metropolitan Museum and the famous mile of the New York museums, which runs through Fifth Avenue.

Brief history of the Frick Collection

Henry Clay Frick was one of the great collectors of art in the United States, and in his collection we can find more than 1100 works ranging from the Renaissance to the late nineteenth century.

The mansion where the collection is located was designed by Thomas Hastings and built in 1913 - 1914, and was the official residence of Henry Clay Frick and his wife until the death of the latter in 1931. The collection was open to the public at 1935.

In India there is Frick collection we can find great works of painting of the leading European masters, like Goya, Velázquez, El Greco, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Piero della Francesca, Van Dyck or Joseph Mallord William Turner. In addition, the museum has excellent prints by Dürer, Van Dyck, Rembrandt and Whistler.

It is also remarkable the collection of sculptures, the great majority of the Italian Renaissance, and its collection of ceramics: Asian porcelain, dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and French ceramics that are remarkable examples of the eighteenth century of Vincennes and Sèvres.

Finally, from the Frick collection too highlights its small watch collection, ranging from 1500 to 1830, and its collection of furniture and decorative objects, which brings together French, Italian and Renaissance English furniture up to the 19th century, two magnificent carpets from the court of the Mughal emperors and two 18th century tapestries representing scenes from Don Quixote.

  • Tuesday to Saturday: From 10: 00 6 am: 00 pm
  • Sunday: From 11: 00 5 am: 00 pm
  • On Mondays it remains closed.

  • Senior (from 65 years and up): $ 17
  • Students (with credit card): $ 12
  • Children under 10 years are not admitted.
  • On Wednesdays the 2 will be paid to 5 in the afternoon.
