A race that is gradually taking shape in the calendar is the New York half marathon, which runs every year in mid-March, andhis year will run on Sunday 17 March 2019. For me, it's the race of the year that has the most beautiful route, and more since last year modified the route, which now departs from Brooklyn to finish at the Central Park goal. Little by little it is getting more followers, in spite of the cold, and 20.000 are already the runners who do it every year, so they have had to establish quotas and a lottery similar to the marathon.

The route of the New York half marathon

The race will be held this year in the opposite direction to previous editions, and will not end as usual on Wall Street. The tour departs from Grand Army Plaza, in Brooklyn, to take a very long avenue that ends in the first rush of the race, to cross the Manhattan bridge to enter Manhattan, once there you will go by the FDR motorway by the edge of the river East to the UN, and here you will turn onto 42th Street to go to Times Square, which is the 8 mile of the race, crossing in front of Grand Central or Bryant Park. From Times Square you will go up the Seventh Avenue straight to enter Central Park after traveling a mile and take a full turn to the park, to finish at the same goal as in the New York marathon but just in the opposite direction. If you want to see the route in detail, you can download in pdf format, or watch this video that has made the organization of the race:

** Your age on the day of the 2019 United Airlines NYC Half.

If you do not have this mark, as in the marathon you enter a lottery, the lottery, in which if you are a lucky winner you can run the half marathon the following year. For this year 2019 the lottery will close the 14 of November and the draw of numbers will be held 28 November 2018, so on that date is when you will know whether or not you can run the half marathon.

And if you do not get a dorsal?

As in the marathon, you can get your bib by making a strong donation to charitable causes, or through international travel agencies that have agreements with the organizer. Here I leave a link to the official website with international agencies of the year 2018, the list of the year 2019 has not yet been published but will not differ much from this list, as soon as it is available we will change the link.

Some data of the race

The race is done very early in the morning, to avoid traffic collapse in New York, so take the 7: 30 departure in the morning. In addition, they require you to take a minimum pace of 13 minutes and 45 seconds per mile, if you are not able to perform that rhythm they will send you to go down the sidewalk to finish the half marathon.

Where is the dorsal?

In this case, the bib number must be picked up at the Metropolitan Pavilion, located at 125 West 18th Street, very close to Union Square

Some tips for the race

In this case, you only have to give one, and it is very good to wait for the wait before the start of the race. At this time of the year in New York, at the time of the race usually done on the 4ºC, with a maximum of 9ºC and a minimum of -2ºC, so it is advisable to be prepared to stand more than an hour in the area of the corrals before taking the exit.

The last advice is not to get too excited, you have to save a bit of strength for the whole part of the climb and the hills of Central Park, but the excitement of the race, the people who cheer you up and the areas that you can play a bad trick and arrive without strength at the end.

And for the companions?

Depending on the pace of your runner, but no doubt see it pass through the intersection of Bryant Park with Fifth Avenue or Times Square sure is very exciting, also from there you can take the subway and get very fast to the line area of goal in Central Park
