Who has not ever heard of some mythical boxing match at Madison Square Garden, or The Garden what do New Yorkers usually call it? The mythical pavilion is located in downtown New York, two steps from the Empire State Building and just above the main train station in New York, Penn Station.

Brief history of Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden is a mythical multipurpose pavilion located just above Penn Station, on Seventh Avenue between 31th and 33th streets. Opened 11 February 1968, is the headquarters of the New York Knicks and the New York Liberty basketball and the New York Rangers ice hockey. Unfortunately, in the year 2013 the city of New York unanimously voted to close the pavilion to expand the facilities of Penn Station, so in the coming years these teams should look for a new pavilion to continue playing.

The name of the pavilion comes from the first location that this stadium had, between Madison and 26th streets, at the beginning of Madison street and what is now Madison Square Park.

Considered by many as the mecca of boxing, this pavilion has seen some of the best fights in history: Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Joe Frazier or Muhammad Ali had some of their best fights in This pavilion, although it has always been known to be the court of the New York Knicks.

It is also the usual venue for the main pop and rock concerts in the city, and has a capacity of almost 20.000 spectators.
